Festivals in Andhra Pradesh is not
specific as you can observe one or the other part of this state is
engrossed in a festive and cheerful mood.
This is a state with rich culture as
well as heritage and has a strong influence of the past. The evidence
of the past tradition being followed is apparent in the fairs and
festivals celebrated in this state.
This state houses various religions

festivals, the Brahmotsavam is celebrated with pomp and grandeur.
This is a nine day festival held in the
Navaratris. This attracts pilgrims from all over India and other
countries. All the days Lord Venkateswara is taken out associated with
his consorts in processions. Andhra Pradesh festivals include Makar
Sakranti. This is one of the festivals celebrated all over India.

It is the harvest festival celebrated
in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh for three days. People
dress in new clothes and take part in various activities.
The first day is known as Bhogi, when
old things are burnt to symbolize the arrival of new things, second day
is known as Peedha Panduga, when people offer prayers and feast is
arranged in homes and communities.
Shows such as cock fights are
organized, but now government has stopped such shows. The third day is
known as Kanuma Panduga, lots of sweet dishes are had.

The Lumbini festival is celebrated to honor
the glorious past. This is a three day festival held in December. The
tourism department of Andhra Pradesh government in Hyderabad and
Nagarjunasagar organize it. The name Lumbini is acquired after the
birthplace of Lord Buddha.
During this festival, the 2000 year history
is showcased when Buddhism was dominant. This is the best time to enjoy
the opulent Buddhist heritage of this state. Deccan festival is one of
the Hyderabad festivals and is the well known festivals in Andhra
Pradesh that displays the art and culture of Deccan region.
This is held in February or March for 5 days
and is an event comprising of various fairs. The nights are colorful
with several cultural programs such as music concerts, dance
performances as well as poetry sessions. There is a treat after this
program invoking the treasure of culture. Andhra Pradesh festivals are
scintillating and it is not wrong to say the state is addictive to
celebration and festivals.
