Festivals in Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India enjoys an immense variety of festivals. All the festivals of Delhi are celebrated traditionally with music, colorful costumes and dance.

The beauty of Delhi festivals can be experienced from the religious festivals celebrated and also through several other occasions that brings people together.

There are several fairs and festivals that are celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. The festivals of Id-Ul Fitar marks the end on Ramzan, the fasting month of Muslims and this is celebrated with same fervor as other Hindu festivals.

Id-ul-Fitar is a special occasion for fasting as well as rejoicing and so the end of the festival is done with great pomp.

Festivals of Delhi include Makar Sakranti, the harvest festival. This is celebrated in various parts of the country such as Delhi, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh. The typical festival spirit can be seen in the fights and bullock race.

Delhi festivals include the Republic day. This day is celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm and the celebrations comprise magnificent parade of armed forces and dances from various states of India.

The Maha Shivaratri is also celebrated with devotion and during this day lots of craftsmen gather to display their handicrafts as well as fabric items. This is an occasion attracting numerous tourists.

Holi is a festival celebrated with vigor and joy and Ramnavmi is observed as brightest Hindu festivals. This festival is called as festival of lights. The streets and houses are lit with diyas and lights.

All the festivals of Delhi are celebrated with pomp and fun.Baisakhi is a festival celebrated to mark harvesting season and to rejoice this festival Bhangra and Gidha dances are executed all over Delhi.

Another very important Delhi festival is the Rakshabandhan, during which the sisters tie on the brother’s wrist a holy thread and take oath to protect them in adversities.

The other festivals of Delhi are Dussehra, Diwali, Christmas and Guru Nanak Jayanti.The festivals are endless, but every Delhi festival is observed as a special event.

The festivals are famous for delicious dishes and sweets especially prepared for such occasions. Apart from these festivals, fairs are organized at Pragati Maidan as well as Dilli Haat. These are good occasions to rejoice and to watch this as tourist and are a bonus for a tourist as he comes to visit a place and learns so many things. Moreover, if he gets opportunity to visit fairs, then this becomes a memorable destination.
