The history of Delhi shows relevance in the epic Mahabharata with the mention of Indraprastha city, a thriving city as per legends. The history of this city dates back to 13th century.

It is believed that Lalkot was created by Anagpal Tomar and is well known for defense work. Prithviraj III captured Lalkot and extended it by adding gates and massive ramparts and made Quila Rai Pithora.

Today only few ramparts are seen near the Qutub Minar.Successive battles and invasion was a part of this city. After Rajputs, Ghuri entered.

He was assassinated and forts, monuments and provinces were kept safe. Then Qutub-ud-din-Aibak founded the Qutub Minar and Iltutmish completed it. Today Siri is sited where Siri Fort was located and Tughluqabad was established by the Tughluq dynasty and only remains are seen today.

The Delhi history continued with Jahanpanah building Delhi between Siri and Lalkot. This was followed by Firoz shah who created Delhi at Firozabad. The history of Delhi saw many changes. The Lodi gardens, the battle of Panipat, the Humayun, Babur, Emperor Akbar and Emperor Shah Jahan.

This was the period of finest Mughal architecture could be seen. Delhi experienced tumultuous times with infinite dynasties and rulers. The British shifted the capital to Delhi from Calcutta and all the activities were directed from here. So Delhi has the marks of freedom Struggle and the tri-color flag at Red fort reflects a history of India.
