The Marriage dance in Madhya Pradesh is the Maria Gonds Tribal people dance. They celebrate every significant event with dances.

The most popular and well known dance tradition is the fascinating marriage dance. The Madhya Pradesh dance is spectacular especially when it is a marriage dance.

The Maria Gonds wear bison horn, raw silk and they carry feathers that are handed from father to son. These gonds give importance to head dress to such an extent that they exchange a bullock for a pair of good horns.

The traditional ceremony is simple and it is accomplished with a dance and feast. The Madhya Pradesh dance includes the Murias tribal drum dance.

They are well known for their drum dances called as Mandri. This is played with the drum beats and specifically done by the boys. Girls also join them, but appear separate.

The dance movements are usually complicated and involve lots of activities such as kneeling, gyrating, jumping and the playing of the drum is also interesting. The harvest season in any part of India is a celebrating season.

This is obvious from the various events calling for celebration and dance in Madhya Pradesh.

The Bundelkhand region women dance carrying newly harvested Jowar grain crops on their heads in huge baskets. These women skillfully balance the baskets on their heads without holding it and the dance is fast paced.

The Madhya Pradesh dance includes the folk legends where men portray the characters and the themes are borrowed from legends about warriors and kings.

The folk dance in Madhya Pradesh is mainly based on songs and dances, and generally the songs are sung by the dancers with supporting musicians. Folk dances are influenced by the adjacent state, Rajasthan.

The other dances of the Maha Pradesh tribals are the Phag, a sword dance and Lota, where a woman balances pitchers of water on their heads. The varied dances are nice to watch and leave an unforgettable impression.
