Madhya Pradesh Wedding

Wedding is a special occasion in everyone’s life and this is the time to have reunion of family gatherings. Madhya Pradesh wedding is also done in a very formal method.

Whatever advance they are, however forwarded they go, the wedding in Madhya Pradesh is yet done in a very traditional manner.

The wedding initiates with the Tilak where the bride’s brother visiting the groom’s house with lots of gifts for the entire family.

This is the first occasion where both the families agree to enter into a sacred matrimony and is signified by the bride’s brother as he goes to the groom’s home and gives gifts as well as sweets for the groom as well as his family.

Madhya Pradesh wedding done in the formal manner has a grace. It looks nice to watch the procedure progress step by step. After the Tilak ceremony, Pili Chitthi is sent to the bride’s family as a written acceptance.

A letter with Lord Ganesha symbol is dabbed in turmeric and Kumkum powder and is sent to the bride’s family by the groom’s family, confirming the acceptance of alliance. This is followed by the Mandap Aarohan which means erecting as well as decorating the mandap.

The wedding in Madhya Pradesh is done with the full support of the family members. The bride’s family members erect the mandap and decorate it with colorful papers or flowers.

Madhya Pradesh wedding is a simple ceremony. The procedure is detailed and is followed accordingly.

The erection of the mandap is followed by Haldi ceremony where the bride is beautified by applying haldi on her face, feet and arms.

This is followed by applying henna on the bride’s feet and hands. The bride’s uncle is a significant member in the Hindu weddings.

The wedding in Madhya Pradesh also carries high importance to the maternal uncle.

The maternal uncle gives the bride gifts called Maira. He presents with lavish gifts and hosts a sumptuous vegetarian lunch.

The wedding in Madhya Pradesh is enjoyed as each procedure is followed by the other and you can see a sequence of rituals one following the other. The gifts given by the groom’s family is known as Padla and is displayed.

This is followed by the Baraat, where the groom arrives to the venue in a ceremonial procession. His future mother-in-law greets him with a traditional aarti. The Saat Pheras is taken as a marriage vow.

A priest officiate this ceremony and the groom’s shawl is joined to the duppata of the bride and they take seven rounds of the sacred fire. After this ceremony, the bride wears green bangles.

This is followed by Kunwar Kaleo, where the groom and his family members are invited for a festive meal and the Bidai, the actual send off. Bidai is a tearful ritual where the bride bids her family members farewell.

The last is the ‘mooh dikai’ where the bride is made acquaintance and is showered gifts. Madhya Pradesh wedding is a jubilant ceremony, keeping everyone alert and the entire function goes on as per schedule.
