The Gateway of India is one of the famous monuments in Maharashtra and this is the starting point for tourists to explore the city.

In Kolhapur the famous monument is the Maharajas new palace. The Maharashtra monuments are many in numbers marking the history of that place.

Agakhan palace is one of the historical landmarks of Pune.

The Agakhan Palace consists of spacious lawns and Italian arches. This is a significant Maharashtra monument mainly because during the quit India movement in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Mahadeobhai Desai were kept in imprisonment in this palace.

This was the period when Kasturba Gandhi and Shri Mahadeobhai Desai passed away in this palace and two memorials have been erected here. Monuments in Maharashtra mainly consider the Gateway of India as it is the principal landmark. The Gateway was constructed by British and was opened in 1924.

Among various other Maharashtra monuments, yet Gateway of India is the chief monuments in Maharashtra as it leads to water and you can take a motor launch and go for a short cruise through this splendid harbor.

The tickets are available there itself. You can watch the Taj Mahal hotel from the Gateway of India and adjacent to it are the statues of Shivaji on his horse and Swami Vivekananda.

Khuldabad houses the tomb of Aurangazeb and there were several Sufi saints who resided here. This has the holy shrine of Muslims and shelters the Aurangazeb tomb.

Lal Mahal is identical to a red palace and this is the place where Shivaji spent his childhood with his mother.

It was this Mahal that Aurangazeb tried to put an end to the political power of Shivaji and lost his fingers. The monuments in Maharashtra include the new palace in Kolhapur. This has a fusion of Hindu and Jain.

The interiors of this place has a great collection of weapons, games, jewellery, costumes and paraphernalia and these make wonderful things that attract the tourists.

This is considered to be a museum and the memorabilia of the Kolhapur rulers are stored here. The Maharashtra monuments are remarkable and signify the importance of the glorious past and history.
