Yatra. This festival is celebrated in the city of Puri. It derives its
name from the two words ‘Rath” that means a chariot and ‘Yatra’ that
denotes a procession.
During this festival, the idols of Lord
Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra are placed in the
temple chariot. This chariot is pulled by the devotees to the Gundicha
temple. The idols are place in this temple and after a week returned to
the Sri Mandira in a similar process.
