One such festival in Orissa is the Rath Yatra. This festival is celebrated in the city of Puri. It derives its name from the two words ‘Rath” that means a chariot and ‘Yatra’ that denotes a procession.

During this festival, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra are placed in the temple chariot. This chariot is pulled by the devotees to the Gundicha temple. The idols are place in this temple and after a week returned to the Sri Mandira in a similar process.

The Orissa festivals include the Konark dance festival where dancers from various parts of the country come here to show their performances.

This is one of the rocking Orissa festivities celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and gusto.

The sun temple is the venue and on this occasion various classical dances are promoted. Exceptional performances as well as novices come to view this grandeur occasion.

This festival in Orissa is accomplished by amateur musicians and a grand extravaganza sets the people’s mood.

Chaitya Parva is a tribal festival celebrated in the tribal groups. The festivals in Orissa include the Ekamra Utsav.

This is a series of occasions dedicated to Lord Shiva and promotes the cultural heritage. Kalinga Mahotsav is a popular festival as it holds religious significance and aims to encourage the path of peace than fighting with each other. The other Orissa festivals are the Parab tribal festival, the Puri beach festival and the Rajarani music festival.

These festivals are well known festivals and the credit of organizing these festivals goes to the tourism department in Orissa. They collaborate with other organizations such as Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy, Bhubaneswar Music circle and the union ministry of tourism.
