Punjab education is well known identical to its popularity in agriculture, tradition and culture and is renowned for the Sardar community.

Education in Punjab includes compulsory primary education or even higher technical education.

The students who have completed their studies from the Punjab institutions have created a great name in their careers and have left behind their marks in various fields in the world.

The people residing in Punjab are known as Punjabis and sardars are the one wearing turban. This is an identification of being a Sikh.

The Punjabis and sardars have a distinct and attractive look and are easily identifiable even in a crowd.

The Punjab education has given great people to this nation and one such name is Dr. Kalpana Chawla. She completed her education in Punjab and has proved the level of education in this state.

Kalpana chawla is a proof highlighting that opportunities are easily available to men and women and in Punjab they are equally rated. The education system in Punjab is constantly developing and the people of Punjab are actively engaged.

The Punjabis are very strong and brave people and have sacrificed their lives for freedom struggles. One such popular national hero is Shahid Bhagat Singh who sacrificed his precious life for freedom struggle. Today his life story is a part of Indian school book curricula.

After independence, the Punjab education started taking more initiative to develop education even in remote villages.

At present, four directorates work under the department of education in Punjab.

They are directorate of public instruction, directorate of primary education, directorate of secondary education and directorate of state council of research and training.

Punjab facilitates the education system in an organized manner and provides free primary education to children between 6 to 14 years.

The government of Punjab is aiming to increase the educational institutions so that no child is left without acquiring education.

The education system follows the primary, middle, secondary school system. There are higher technical education and professional in Punjab. The industries have grown well and the manpower is in great demand in technical and non technical areas.

The education in Punjab is sincerely trying to fill the void and so stress is given on modernization, expansion and reorientation of education in the technical fields. The main aim of Punjab education is to produce technicians, engineers and craftsmen as they can handle the technical operations deftly.
