Maps Of Punjab

One of the key agricultural states of India is Punjab. The name gets its origin from the words picked out of the medieval Persian language – Punj & Aab. The word Punjab refers to the land of five rivers.

As we can see on the travel map s of Punjab the state occupies the north western parts of India. The detailed maps of Punjab show that the state shares its borders with the following Indian states:

1. Jammu & Kashmir 2. Himachal Pradesh 3. Haryana 4. Chandigarh
5. Rajasthan

Talking of the geographic placement of the state, the maps of Punjab have their own exquisite importance in terms of the history of India. In separation of India & Pakistan, a major part of Punjab was lost to Pakistan.

Also Punjab been an epicenter of several freedom movements that India took up to throw the Britishers out of their country. The Punjab region if we see in the old map of Punjab was quite huge.

After independence of India and several other key happenings, this state was trifurcated in to 3 key regions, which are as follows:

1. Punjab 2. Haryana 3. Himachal Pradesh

Besides the Indian freedom fight, the map of Punjab also intrigues the archeologists.

This is because this land mass occupies places that had witnessed the age old Indus Valley Civilization.

It is worth mentioning here that the world heritage sites of the cities of Harappa & Mohenjodaro were earlier a part of the travel maps of Punjab as those regions were separated from India in 1947.The state of Punjab holds a key place in the economy of India in several ways. While the state is known for its vast agricultural industry, Punjab also features a widely developed portion of the textile industry of India.

In fact it is worth mentioning here that Punjab is the largest wheat producing state of India. Some of the others influential industries of this state enlist as follows:

1. Manufacture of scientific instruments 2. Manufacture of electrical goods 3. Financial services 4. Machine tools
