The wedding in Punjab is a joyful occasion
with rituals such as ladies sangeet and hiding of slippers. This ritual
is very interesting and special folk dances are included such as Giddas
and Bhangras.
Punjab weddings are filled with thrill and
excitement and each ceremony looks like finding a reason for
merriment.The Chuda ceremony is commemorated by conducting a puja and a
mauli is tied to the wrist of the bride by the pundit.
The maternal aunt and uncle play a
significant role in this ceremony. They fast until the events come to
completion.Chuda is a set or ivory and red bangles and people present
bless the bride for her forthcoming married life.

The Punjab weddings are very
traditional. Lamps are lit and oil is poured constantly so that the
glow of the lamps reflects on the face of the bride.
They apply turmeric powder paste and
mustard oil over the girl and this is done to make her look beautiful
on that specific day.
There is a ceremony called Ghara
Ghardoli in which the siblings of the bride visit an adjacent temple
and fill a pitcher with holy water.
The bride is bathed with this water
and is asked to wear her wedding attire. The weddings in Punjab are
very traditional and so the dresses are presented to them by their
maternal uncles.
The weddings in Punjab include
Sehrabandi and Ghodi Chadna.

The completion of the Sehrabandi ceremony
is witnessed and gifts as well as cash are given to the boy. The surma
is drawn in the boy’s eyes and then he climbs the horse. The Varna
ritual is performed to ward off evil eyes. The Punjab weddings include
the Milni ceremony.
A warm welcome is given and rose water is
sprinkled. As a Shagun everyone starts gifting cash beginning from the
elders. Varmala involves exchange of garlands and the wedding is
performed.
The fun traditions keep going on like hiding
the shoes and charging fees to return it and the mangalpheras and
blessings bring a completion to the weddings.
