One such big desert of India, the Thar Desert is in Rajasthan and is referred to as the Great Indian Desert. The Thar Desert covers an extensive area of nearly 200,000 square kilometers and is situated partly in India and also in Pakistan.

This desert is enveloped by the Indus valley towards the West, Rann of Kutch towards the South, plains of Punjab in North and Northeast and the Aravali Ranges in the southeast.
