The medieval history of Uttar Pradesh saw the advent of Muslim rule. The downfall and humiliation was apparent in this era and Uttar Pradesh came under the rule of the Sultanate era.

Once again the Mughal reign brought prosperity when Emperor Akbar chose Agra and Fatehpur Sikri as the capital cities.

Magnificent monuments were constructed and the era was a spectator of the irreversible trends towards the development as well as consolidation of land holding and administrative systems.
