Uttar Pradesh has an enriching history
to blow their horns. In fact, the history of Uttar Pradesh is self
explanatory of the present Uttar Pradesh and its lifestyle.
This land has seen many rulers and
each ruled honestly have contributed to a great extent. Uttar Pradesh
history envelops the rule of Lord Rama to the British rule.
This has influenced the entire state
and Uttar Pradesh is even today following the ancient old traditions
and customs. They have emerged as a very great developing city, but are
beholding the values of customs and traditions.
The history of Uttar Pradesh started
with the Aryans of the Central Asian region. This tryst began very
early when Aryans began settling along the banks of Ganges.

This settlement was predominantly rural and
was called as ‘Madhyadesh’ which means ‘Central Country’.The epic of
Mahabharata talked about kings ruling in a nd around Uttar Pradesh and
were participants in the war between Pandavas and Kauravas.
Uttar Pradesh history has left no stone
unturned. The middle millennium saw the dawn of Lord Buddha and the
prominence of Buddhism. When Buddha gave his sermon, this state was
ruled by Magadha dynasty and in due course it went into the hands of
Nanda dynasty and later to Mauryan dynasty who overthrew Nanda.

Uttar Pradesh history is a long chain
as it has seen various hands changing. The post- Christ era saw Kannauj
in the power and several rulers ruled this city, but the Harshavardhana
reign was the period that the city was elevated to its pinnacle.
The medieval history of Uttar Pradesh
saw the advent of Muslim rule. The downfall and humiliation was
apparent in this era and Uttar Pradesh came under the rule of the
Sultanate era.
Once again the Mughal reign brought
prosperity when Emperor Akbar chose Agra and Fatehpur Sikri as the
capital cities.
Magnificent monuments were constructed
and the era was a spectator of the irreversible trends towards the
development as well as consolidation of land holding and administrative
systems.

This era saw developments in crafts, unique
arts and culinary traditions. The Mogul rule weakened and the conquest
of British became apparent. The state became the epicenter of Sepoy
revolt.
The other martial tribes ruled the other
areas such as Oudh by Shiite Nawabs, Bundelkhand by Marathas, Nepal by
Kumaon and Gadhwal, and so on. Some protagonists namely, Tantya Tope,
Nana Saheb, Rani of Jhansi, Begum Hazrat Mahal and the Maharaja of
Benaras were residents of Uttar Pradesh.
Somehow, with lots of reigns and rulers,
today Uttar Pradesh history is a very lengthy one and interesting as
well. The history of Uttar Pradesh is seen with awe and the same state
today stands dignified in various fields and attracts tourists from far
and wide.
