Education has a major role to play in
today’s world. A world without education is even unthinkable. Education
is every man’s birthright.
It is something that can be denied as
it is the fundamental mentality of man that he yearns to learn
something new.
Education provides the brain something
it can constantly keep thinking about.
Education is more than merely learning
a few concepts and reproducing them during examinations. Uttarakhand
colleges provide education that finds its application in practical
life.
There are numerous colleges in
Uttarakhand that are very well known. The students to these colleges
come from far and wide.

The first Government College in Uttar
Pradesh was started in the year 1951. It was the D.S.B College. It was
only later that Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were separated into two
different states. The D.S.B College was established in Dehradun in the
year 1956.
After this, many more Uttarakhand Colleges
came into existence. There is also an agricultural university in the
state namely the Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant Agriculture &
Technical University.
These colleges in Uttarakhand offer some of
the best education in the nation. There is always a large rate of
enrollments in the colleges present in the state of Uttarakhand.

The adverse geographical situations of
these hilly areas and the increase in the availability of education are
worth appreciating as there are many adverse conditions.
The government established colleges in
Uttarakhand in the seventies in various regions of Garhwal and Kumaon.
The Uttarakhand colleges were
instituted in both the regions as higher education had to be imparted
in these headquarters.
Comprehending the importance of
education, many colleges were institutes to augment their skills and
talents that lacked honing.
The paucity of funds in this period
forced the colleges to be opened in rented places.

The foremost priority was given to land and
building as well as to other basic needs for a college. The end of that
decade there was a great increase in the government colleges in
Uttarakhand and by 1993 to 1996 nearly 10 new colleges were instituted.
Out of these 10 new colleges, Kumaon had
four colleges and Garhwal six. Kumaon had one women’s college. The
Uttarakhand colleges were built keeping in mind the adverse
geographical conditions and also the difficulty in approach.
The pursuance of fast expansion and the need
for higher education, especially the backward community coerced the
government to institute colleges quickly. The colleges were equipped
with libraries, laboratories and qualified faculty.
