Uttarkhand Culture

The history of Garhwal and Kumaon dates to 7th and 8th century. The Hindu kings from several parts migrated to India to Uttarakhand with their family, priests and also their army.

Later, the children of the priests and army men slowly contributed this region with their population.

Owing to this the Uttarakhand society has 70% Rajputs, 20% Brahmins and 10% other castes and communities.

As various kings have migrated to Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand culture shows diversity. The culture of Uttarakhand reflects in the contribution of worshipping the Gods and Goddess.

The fact is that the presence of various temples form a part of worship and is practiced in several regions.

The Uttarakhand culture reflects the culture of all the states that are adjacent to Uttarakhand. The culture of Uttarakhand is immersed in the worship of Gods and hence this land is known as God of the Lands.

There are many temples and several pilgrimages in Uttarakhand. The temples are the main attractions of this place and are one of the vital reasons for the tourist’s influx to this region.

Though the climate is cold and the roads to reach the places of pilgrimage are tough, there is no dearth of tourists and pilgrims visiting Uttarakhand.

The antiquity of Uttarakhand can be traced to 2nd century and the recent excavations show indication that the Himalayan tribes existed around 200 AD.

You can find a mix culture in Uttarakhand owing to several communities and religion settling here.

The Uttarakhand culture is simple and non-complicated. They follow the traditions and rituals that can be suitable with their environmental surroundings.

They do not stick to rigid rules, but in regard to worship and pilgrimage they follow the age old practices.

The local aspirations grow steadily and reach the cultural destination in the same pace. So, you cannot find a great cultural change in this state.

The culture in Uttarakhand is deep rooted as it has been followed since ages. The Uttarakhand culture is however, focused on the worship of Gods, Goddesses and pilgrims. There are lots of places of attraction and the climate is also very pleasant, but the tradition and culture is practiced and adhered to the old rules.

Significant changes are not brought as they admire their old cultures and nourish the same. Apart from this, there are various other activities that captivate the tourists such as water sports, mountain climbing, trekking and just watching the beautiful scenery.
