Basant Panchami is an important religious festival that celebrates the spring season and marks the end of winters that symbolized death as well as decay.

Festivals in Uttarakhand include Bhitauli. This is celebrated with pomp and great show. This is a grand festival when gifts are given by the brothers to the sisters. The rituals are celebrated with high veneration.

The Uttarakhand festivals include Phool Dei a special festival celebrated with the advent of spring. A pudding made from curd, jaggery and flour is a special delicacy and songs are sung to enhance the spirit of the festival.Makar Sankranti is a festival and is considered as very auspicious. The ceremonial dips, fairs and rituals are observed with great fervor.

Bat Savitri is a festival celebrated with ebullience and on this day the married females pray with devotion to Savitri and the Banyan tree seeking blessings for the prosperity and welfare of their husbands.

Fasting is observed by married woman and Satyavan remembering with extreme dedication.The festivals in Uttarakhand include the Dusshera. This is celebrated as per Hindu calendar. The doors of houses as well as temples are well decorated and the honored Brahmins on this auspicious day perform pujas for the progress of goodness and prosperity.

On these days bath are taken in the holy rivers. The Uttarakhand festivals are celebrated with fervor. Some of the other festivals celebrated here are the Hill yatra, Chhipla jaat, Kandali, Kumaon Holi, Janopunya and Nanda Devi.
