Uttarkhand Hill Stations

Uttarakhand is a state where tourism is always at the zenith. This is because the state has a favorable positioning for tourism.

The Himalayas borders the state in a single direction. The Uttarakhand hill stations are some of the best in the world.

These hill stations are naturally beautiful. The hill stations in Uttarakhand are famous all over the world.

One among the numerous prominent hill stations in Uttarakhand is Mussoorie. This hill stations is eminent as the “Queen of the Hills”. Nearby is the Landour military cantonment that is considered as a portion of ‘Greater Mussoorie”. The name of this Uttarakhand hill station is derived from the word ‘Mansoor’, which means a bush.

This town is also referred as ‘Mansoori’ by the local people. This hill station is situated at an altitude of about 2000m above the mean sea level. The positioning of this hill station is very unique. It has the Himalayas to its north east as well as the Shiwaliks and the Doon valley to its south.

The famous Uttarakhand hill station, Mussoorie can be best visited and explored from March to June and the next season to visit is from September to December.

The history dates back to 1825 when a British military officer accompanied by a Revenue officer, Mr. Shore unearthed the present site and in cooperation built a shooting lodge.

This unearthed place is the hill station in Uttarakhand today. The main esplanade in Mussoorie is called the Mall identical to other hill stations.

In Mussoorie, this Mall extends from picture palace to the public library. Recently, this hill station suffers due to over development of tourist lodges and hotels. The problems of garbage, lack of parking spaces and water scarcity is apparent during the tourist seasons.

This famous Uttarakhand hill station is a honing ground for Indian administrative service officers. This scenic institute is located nearly 3 kms from Gandhi Chowk. There are several boarding schools in Mussoorie. Mussoorie has a place worth visiting known as ‘Gun hill’.

Here the canons were stored for the defense of Mussoorie. Gun hill is easily accessible by cable car and Mussoorie has the biggest roller skating rink. Adjacent to the hill stations in Uttarakhand is the Kempty falls, a beautiful picnic spot with a Tibetan temple and is worth visiting.
