The history of Uttarakhand is really
interesting as it has various legends in association with the epics.
The history of Uttarakhand comprises Kumaon, the land of Lord Vishnu,
the mankind preserver according to Hindus. Kumaon has districts namely,
Almora, Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Udhamsingh Nagar and
Champawat.
The temples here also are very old and are
one of the greatest tourist attractions. The Uttarkand history in
relation to Kumaon initiates even before the early medieval period.
This is a beautiful place revealing the
richness of the past history when the rulers started architectural
innovation and constructed numerous temples using heavy stones and the
best illustration of such temple is the Katarmal temple facing east,
opposite to Almora. This is a sun temple that is 900 years old built in
the Katyuri dynasty and is a must visit place.
